Um, neither of those can be considered portrait lenses, using the common definition of that term. And if you mean fractional body shots. If y'all want a portrait lens, y'all desire the 85 f/ane.4, or just get an 85 f/1.8 if your upkeep doesn't allow. The ART is less expensive than the Nikon, and arguably meliorate.

If you want a l f/1.4, hire both the the Sigma and Nikon and experiment as much as possible. The Nikon tin suffer from horrible CA, depending upon contrast. I'd never buy information technology if I were in the market.

The Sigma 35 is quite squeamish. But information technology not a portrait lens by any stretch of the imagination. If y'all want to do ecology stuff, it'll exercise the flim-flam.

I agree with Gary. 50mm isn't terrible and I run into a lot of folks using them. They but don't isolate or flatter the model quite as much, but they can make decent portrait lenses. I rented these to effigy out how the 2 focal lengths compare. 35mm is quite a bit different than the 50mm.

If yous want a portrait lens that is versatile, perchance rent a 24-lxx or whatever equivalent that'south available for your camera. A lot of folks use that because 70mm is more flattering and isolates ameliorate, simply then they can use the wider angles for group photos and shots that they want to include the scenery.

Otherwise, the 85 1.eight is a fantastic portrait lens

Practise you take a 85mm?  If so, and you desire to shoot portraits, you really need to pick upwards one.  Ditch the f/1.4's you mentioned here, and pick yourself up a 85mm f/i.viii every bit suggested by Gary.  Actually good lens for the money.

:agree: 85mm f/1.eight is a good selection and won't toll yous much more than some of those other options.
